Re: SAS or leave TTB
the only real limit to a TTB and crawling is how big of tire you want to run. a big heavy truck with a big V8 on high traction rocks, plus d44 shafts will not last long if you go over 37" tall or ~13" tread width. the u joints just can't take it and you will rip ears off the shafts when you get bound up or have to hammer down up a ledge.
wheel travel is wheel travel, like steve pointed about spring rate, the ideal for crawling or go fast is different so you need to find your happy medium. that being said, i made it thru the rubicon no problem with a 4" pro comp kit, 18" longer arms, and a detroit and 35s. plenty of others have done the same. the whole "forced articulation" debate is over rated in my opinion.
look into the D50 stub axle upgrade, its good for some extra strength on the cheap. a front ARB would be a very wise investment if you are serious about crawling. having a locked front on a nose heavy and short wheelbase rig is crucial. if i could do it all over again, i would throw an ARB in front and a spool in back till i could afford dual ARBs.

Re: SAS or leave TTB
Spirit used to extend the stock radius arms and add a lot of gusseting. The Spirit-built BFG Bronco has stock/extended radius arms and tens of thousands of off-road miles.[HBW]22 wrote:I also have another question. I have stock radius arms with those ugly drop down brackets. I was thinking of boxing those in and extending them and putting heims on them. Has anyone extended their stock ones? or is this just a bad idea?

Okay does anyone have pictures of those off the BFG bronco?
Re: SAS or leave TTB
I would personally not go with that type of set up as they tend to bend under hard use. The single extended tube is very heavy and just does not put up with all of the beating that a long travel TTB set up goes through. Alos It takes just about the same amount of time to make your radius arms that way as it does to make them in a stronger style.

Yes it's not as cool, but done properly, it will work.

Yup.[HBW]22 wrote:Okay does anyone have pictures of those off the BFG bronco?
It's not as simple as cutting and adding a tube, though. You also have to correct for caster. It might be easier to start from scratch.

Bajascot does I beleive. BTW the mod. arms from solo are $225 last time I called. Thats not extended just boxed and the ears are moved to correct for caster.

If you could locate 99+ Superduty radius arms they would work well... Since they are stock you may be able to save some $$$.

Re: SAS or leave TTB
Those look similar except the version I have seen used is from a 2WD. There was an odd white Spirit built bronco on race-dezert a while back that had a set on it.[HBW]22 wrote:Are these them?

Re: SAS or leave TTB
FYI, I am an experienced fabricator and the first set of radius arms I built from scratch bent about a year after I put them on. They are not difficult to build but they do see a lot of force and need to be right.

Okay thanks guys, and they are longer right? Like I don't need drop down brackets except the stock ones from the superduty.

Re: SAS or leave TTB
They are quite a bit longer and have different geometry since a F250/350 sits quite a bit higher than a stock Bronco. They look to be unmodified in that picture.[HBW]22 wrote:Okay thanks guys, and they are longer right? Like I don't need drop down brackets except the stock ones from the superduty.

It would still be appreciated since little is known about this swap and it has not been done much.Rednek Renegade wrote:Son of b!tch!!! I am doing the exact same thing using 2wd arms and was gonna do a write up since I searched and had never seen it done. Well there goes my originality points, damn
