how can I beat a 6.0 lq4 carb conversion blazer

Post by Piyakoracing »

there is this relative of a relative who has a blazer with an lq4 6.0 with carb, calling me out to race him in the dunes up hill. my bronco has a 351 bored to .30(357), mustang heads, crower cam, msd coil and distributor on 35's, with a shift kit. I come from a mustang street racing community and honestly f^ck chevy. got some cash to install a carb, intake, fuelpump, regulator, nitrous, and a optishift stand alone module for the e4od. I dont drive the bronco often, maybe once a month to the dunes. mpgs are no of my concern. I really want to stay efi, but it is very expensive. my cousin just spended like 850 on a trick flow intake and throttle body. I tell him that an MAF conversion is needed to milk all the power from the engine. does anyone know what is the max hp's on speed density efi form. I really need help to decide on what route should I take. I might start ordering parts tommorrow.

If it was 2wd, I would say pull a trailer. But you're screwed. hahaha

He'll beat you and use half the fuel.

I know he will beat me but I'm not to sure if he is saving more gas than me. he has a carburetor as well with the edelbrock conversion kit for ls family engines.

This is why I'm looking at an LS series for my truck.

Good luck with the race...

How long does the motor need to last? 500 shot the motor may last long enough to get you up the hill.
I'm just here for the views. It helps me feel wanted.

Honestly, I would tell him to go suck himself off and ignore it. You will spend a lot of money and time to prove what? This aint a mustang you are driving and it never will be, so forget the boy racer crap and let it slide. Concentrate on fuel efficiency and drivability, and making your suspension work correctly, that will win out in the dune whompin.
I still dont believe the half the fuel BS. Fuel economy starts with regular maintainence and proper driving techniques. If I remember correctly, the LS is SD, right? Maybe there is a point to be learned here. Running the freeway at 80+ isnt gonna help mileage.

There was an article I was reading this weekend about a 408 LSX small block with twin turbo (1200 hp) getting 21mpg (in a pinto) on the highway between race events. Trust me........its not BS. I don't care how light it is.......1200hp is 1200hp.

I just bought some world products Windsor sr heads 2.02/1.60 iron heads still in the boxfor them. tomorrow I'm gonna order the trick flow intake, rollers, valve covers, 75mm throttle body. And you are right I should focus on mpgs, and suspension travel, and ignore it. Good looking out. Once I get all the parts I'm gonna upload some pictures.

Sorry, but talking about fuel economy and our lifted bricks in the same sentence just sounds funny to me...

I'm with Andy on this one, there's just no denying that the LS engines deliver excellent fuel economy. In stock form they'd deliver 300 horsepower and still give you at least 18 mpg... now that's just freaking awesome! I'd drive my Bronco a lot more if it got that kind of fuel economy. Staying off the loud pedal makes a big difference as well.

It is funny Robert - fuel economy in these is kind of like the golden ticket. It's something that you know you probably won't ever get but you're constantly chasing it. Personally I'll do whatever I can to make playing with these toys less of a kick in the wallet each time. To a point of course, but yeah, if I think I can get more HP AND better fule mileage I'm going to try it.
