Steering gear bolt size

Post by hobbyturnedobsession »

I have been looking for the steering gear bolt size and length. I've been wondering the internet and found part numbers but not the size and dimension. I want to run a 10.9 or better since my cage will be bolting to it.

What do you mean your cage will be bolting to it? I believe they are 7/16” bolts. I wouldn’t put any added strain on those bolts if you can help it. If you are talking about like the solo engine cage, the bolt just lines it up. All the strength of the cage is from it welded to the frame.

Giant isn't the only one doing it this way. I'm a bit confused. Giant doesn't make bad parts. Better than others I'd gather to say.

Randy, I'd be fin bolting my hoop there. I'm not a fan of wending things like hoops directly to the frame. Quicker/easier for sure, but seems a bit like the lazy way out to me.

If you make a cross member between the 2 shook hoops you shouldn't be putting any undue stress on that steering box area of the frame IMO.

how is welding out an engine cage/shock hoop the easy way out? having two points of contact in the same plane is the easy way out for sure.

My point was it takes much less time/work typically than making something bolt on = easy way out. To each their own for sure and it's your truck. I just can't stand stuff welded directly to the frame. Taking stuff apart for repairs, prep, to change design later on if you decide, etc. is worth the extra time in make it bolt on for me.
