A/C and Vacuum Cannister??

Post by VintageIronFab »

Hello All,
So like others I want to have a fully operational a/c system but the suspension and all the rest puts a big premium on real estate under the hood. There are some large grapefruit sized plastic vacuum canisters that Dorman makes that would fit almost anywhere— would a smaller canister still let all the a/c functions work as usual? The fingers can is just nasty looking, big and a hoping can be swapped for a smaller piece!

Thx!

Before I answer can I see a picture of the exact part of the system you would like to change.

Perfect Ryan I was going to say mine always worked fine using a ranger one. We have also replaced the blower with a ranger unit in the TTB f150 we have. We gain about 5 inches up on fire wall.

You can also trim & re-seal the blower box to get size down. Way back when I put the supercharged 3.8L in the ranger I had space issues and hacked a good chunk off the fan/blower box and the just sealed it back up with a thin piece of aluminum sheet I put a bead of silicone on and then pop riveted to the remaining plastic. It would work a bit better if you put some heat barrier on the aluminum but I was young & dumb!

Yep Ryan that’s exactly what I was asking about! Willie what Ranger part did you put on exactly to gain clearance?
