Edelbrock Intake and BBK throttle body install

Post by S00TLYFE »

Looking for some insight from anyone who has done this install, mainly I’ve heard you have to chip or have your pcm reflashed, also wondering if I should step up to 24lb injectors now even if I wait to do cam and heads on my truck.

As you know I just did it and am simply driving it as is. Unfortunately in only put a few miles on it and havent been able to focus on how it drives etc due to some other issues with what has been replaced. I read no tune needed etc but I am sd.

In theory, with a MAF truck the computer should have enough flexibility to compensate for the increased airflow of the intake. For injectors, you need a recalibration from what i understand, but that's on much newer OBD2 systems.

Was gonna see if you managed to get around to it yet or not. I have the stuff ready to go and would like to get it on my truck finally pretty soon. Still trying to figure out what heads and cam I want to run.

You should hit up the guys at fiveology. If your obd1 MAF I’m pretty sure they can set you up with a calibrated MAF for the 24lb(or 36, 42 etc.) injectors. I think the calibrated makes are only $130

The 24 lb and 42lb injector are oem spec . You can get oem maf (Calibrated)

24Lb maf came on many Fords and Lincoln, Cobra or Mark VIII and other models
42Lb maf on Gen 2 Lightning, or the newer slot style. That has a much better transfer rate that came on GT500 or GT40
To get the most out of this upgrade. The maf transfer ratio spec need to be changed in the pcm. and the injector duty cycle changed.

Good luck with Fivelogy

Ask a tuner before you spend money !

Unless you're going to forced induction 19lb injectors should be fine. You should upgrade to the 4 port for better attomization. Also, there shouldn't really be a difference in the total air volume moved by the motor since your still using the stock bottom end. What does change is the timing the "pulse waves" of the air that's moving through the runners gets thown into the cylinders due to the increased runner length.

Also, Stever at Powertrain Dynamics in HB is the go to guy for ECM flashing and with that you should copy what Kritter did and get a multistage chip.

Edelbrock Intake and BBK throttle body install

Good stuff guys.

Steve is doing my tuning but I will be doing a cam and heads too so I think I will still need 24lb injectors. I’ll get them from Brian at Fiveology his prices seem reasonable

I’ve got some 34# ford racing injectors. I think they need plug adapter though. I’m not gonna use them. Sell them to you cheap if your interested

Edelbrock Intake and BBK throttle body install

I'll play devils advocate and argue against replacing the stock injectors solely for the mods you have planned. If you are just preparing for a bigger motor down the road then I'd get it.

Did this upgrade in 2017 on a fresh rebuild and have had trouble with the motor since. Always acting like it has a vacuum leak with crazy idle, but cannot find a leak anywhere. Finally have it running a bit better, but still a couple issues.

In neutral, wants to idle at 900 RPM, Drive is 600.

Not sure if this is related to this upgrade or the 35's and 456 gears that were done at the same time, but when I lift off the throttle the transmission starts downshifting like its trying to jake brake the truck. Spikes the RPM's up over 1000 to 1300 each downshift.

Factory injectors and no tuning. Any thoughts if these are related to the intake?

Just got out of emissions testing so thermactor air is going away next weekend.

Ok first thing - I don’t care if you put spark plugs on- get your engine tuned!! There’s power in that engine that tuning can bring out especially if you change gears, tires and the bolt on stuff!

Did you ajust the throttle body setting ?
Did you ajust the TPS ? This can effect shifting. How old is the MLPS ?
Get it tuned

Throttle body idle adjustment screw has been adjusted. Have not adjusted TPS. Will look into that. MLPS is 4 years old. Will check it again though.

Got rid of the constantly varying idle with new plugs, wires, distributor, and IAC.

Trouble with East coast where I am at is finding someone who has a clue how to work on this thing. Nothing but parts swap jockeys in my area. Gotta go 40 miles west to find a shop that can align it.
