slip shaft difference 80-83 84-96

Post by shockseals.com »

What is the difference between the 80-83 slip shaft on the passenger side stub and the 84-96 slip shaft?

Splines are the same, U-joints I think are the same. The 3 bolt stub vs C clip is the difference on the stub axle but I cant figure out what the difference is on the slip? Is it a different length? Are they interchangeable?

The earlier ones have a metal/rubber grease seal with a zerk fitting vs the later ones with just a rubber boot. Should be inter-changeable with the passenger inner axles. Are you running into an issue?

I dug up the answer.

5.06" ON 84-96 SLIP
5.5" ON 80-83 SLIP

The issue is the slip is loose and I dont recall if I used the 80-83 slip or my 96 slip so I was trying to measure and see...now I know the difference! I probably have the 96 slip and engagement is lacking.

slip shaft swapped and tight as can be now, no more slop...so if you swap to a 3 bolt flange stub, swap the slip shaft too.

Had to reclearance it too...

So, the inner splines are longer on the 80-82 bolt in axle?

Slip shaft is longer and by the lack of slop, I will assume inner spline engagement is better(longer) since thats all I changed.
