Upgraded E4OD pan and filter

Post by damon1272 »

Upgraded the trans pan on my F350 with a 5R110 trans, the pan is the same size and layout as the E4OD and 4R100 transmissions. The big thing here is not really the pan and the extra capacity but a better transmission filter that can be used. I chose to go with the Derale trans pan with the cooling tubes. Not sure if it really make a difference but on my tow rig anything will help. Plan on making the same install into my Bronco, that is why I am posting it here.
One can use the factory 5R110 pan from a 08-10 Ford F350 superduty 4x and get the pan for about $40
The derail unit is a bit more but well made and made of steel rather than cast aluminum, figuring it can take a bump without cracking like a cast one would.

The upgraded trans filter is a much higher quality than the flat paper filters of the past. Part number below in the link.

Easy install, pans have drain bolts so a plus for some older trucks, why it took forever to put drain plugs on a transmission I will never know.

Damon, It looks like the pan is deeper and uses the extended filter?
Seems like your clearance would be less.
One of the issue I had was trans pan damage even with my skid.
