Supercool A/C Refrigerants???

Post by VintageIronFab »

Hello All,
Being that this list is made up primarily of southwestern USA desert folk -- a/c is pretty important. You can buy the generic Walmart R134A for $4.88 a can or for about $20 a can the super duper full race full synthetic stuff- which has the same refrigerant as the cheap stuff without the oil. Question is- if you pay 4 times the price, is the expensive stuff worth the money and genuinely objectively blow colder air???

Nope, if it was better the oem would use it. I have even used R-12 substitute and it also works fine. It is a hydrocarbon base stuff. Having said that R134 is just fine. For an old Bronco just convert to 134. A PITA because you really need the green 134 o-rings everywhere. Now you know why r12 substitute is used for old rigs by the DIY guys. The pros have to use the stuff they have a license for which means 134 only.

So the suction a/c hose (pass side) - What hose did you end up using when running coilovers?
