Custom Fuel Pump Hanger- Plate or Not

Post by VintageIronFab »

Hello All,
I made a bracket to hold the new Walbro 255lph fuel pump in place and I made it out of mild steel- should I have this like nickel plates so it won't rust, leave it bare mild steel, I'm pretty sure powdercoat won't last or the nuclear option and remake in SS?? Gas tanks rust out all the time but that's after many years.

Thx,
Matt

With it being submerged much of the time I think you MAY be fine IF you fill your tank often & don't let the truck sit with half a tank very much.

My concern would be all the surface rust/crap that will accumulate on the plate when the truck has half a tank & half the bracket is exposed to the air. Then that crap gets washed off when you fill & it floats around until it gets stuck in the pump or filter.

If if were me I'd make it out of 316 stainless.

It you're going to remake, use aluminum. Then it wont need to be coated.

I made a bracket for same scenario...puts fuel pump sock at same point as oem and is also adjustbale if your tank is smashed in like I have had in past. Bolts on just like factory pump but uses 1/4-20 hardware.

I have a couple extras I would sell for $25ea

I was gonna say - based on the pic that's a cad drawn & cut part. I'm sure Kris could get some more cut.

Personally $25 is too cheap- I’d say make it $60 shipped and make it a worth his time because I really want one! I’d rather stay at work a little longer than screw with making one! Come on Kris make another round go help pay for that 408!!

Anyone who has one of these brackets from Kris and didn’t install it - I’ll give you $60 for it or let me borrow one for dimensions so I can build one!

Following closely. Now days there are several companies selling costly drop in setups, but a Diy setup is promising.
Going to need something like being discussed in the near future.
