It's unfortunate that on many sites and posts I see with grinders and fab happening that the grinders (19 out of 20) DONT have the guards on them. I will NOT use an angle grinder or die grinder WITHOUT a guard. I had a 11" air grinder explode a 6mm thick grinding wheel in my hands many years ago. The third of the disc that hit me went through my heavy leather welding jacket, my overalls and hoody. The bruises left behind took 3 weeks to fade and it knocked me on my arse and winded the hell out of me. I was lucky the guard took most of the force from the shard that hit me, otherwise it could have dis-embowled me or worse.

Well I just wanted to tell the guys to use the shield when using the cutoff wheels and be wary of body position. I'm more scared of the bill at this point

as someone who this year, stabbed themself in the face with a rotary file that caught metal wrong and bounced back into my face, and later had to get metal drilled out of their eye (i was wearing safety glasses, it caught me just right) i can agree with you 100% i dont do anything without a face shield now, 2 ER visits which thankfully only cost me $30 in total plus a $15 bill for antibiotic cream because i have decent insurance, not to mention hours of my life i can never get back, it just isnt worth it.
