E4OD IN/Out Fitting Size???

Post by VintageIronFab »

Hello all,
I was wondering if the E4OD cooler line fittings that thread into the transmission are a -6 x 1/4NPS? I found this size on the Internet and wanted to confirm with you all before I bought the fittings.

Thx for the help!
Matt

Pretty sure it was 3/8npt when I bought my stuff. Only caveat if you don't know about it is there is a check valve at the end of the return line screwed into the housing. I removed mine when I switched to -6an stuff. Without it you have to wait when truck is cold for it to pump fluid back into everything.

Digging this back up. Also curious if anyone knows the fitting sizes for the radiator connection? Just installed a new radiator, and cannot get the lower line to seal for the life of me.

Are you using a paste or a tape? Are the factory fittings steel or brass?

I was going to use a paste, but couldn't even get the lines back apart, long story.

I believe the factory fittings were steel, but it's hard to tell since they're old.

The thread has to be a basic thread- I would take them to a hydraulic shop

I'm wondering if the threads in the radiator itself may be bad. What radiator did you use Will and plastic or aluminum tank? The radiators often come with adapters for the threaded trans connection. Did yours? Maybe this could be part of the issue.

And fittings on the hard line from the factory should be steel.

Its a Mishimoto radiator, and it ended up being the brass adaptors they use to connect the from the factory hard lines, to the threaded bosses in the end tank for the in-rad cooler. I brought the original radiator to a hose shop and they hooked me up with replacement fittings.

The transmission end is 5/16 flared ends.

Has anyone successfully eliminated the hard lines?

Mine is all flexible soft lines. Just 2 small hard lines off the trans supply and return ports with flared ends so the hoses won't come off, backed up with 2 hose clamps per line.

You guys need to get the hard lines flared to 5/16” 37* or -5an and then use a tube nut and sleeve with a -5an/-6an male/male and forget the clamps which are just future failure points. The tube nuts and sleeve are virtually failure proof and are just ridiculously strong connection points.

Will - Mesa Hose can do the above for you cheap, easy & of course very cleanly.

This is what i ended up doing;

5/16 tube nut/sleeve to -6an adaptor. Used the factory hardline from the trans to just below the fan shroud.

5/16 flare to 3/8 pushlock on factory cooler

all 3/8 pushlock
