Radiator fitment

Post by zachwabbit »

So I have a leaky platic end tank on my '89s current(presumably oem, although the filler neck is angled inward towards the engine on the '89, odd as the rad on my old '90 sat straight up like most rads do) radiator, I've been shopping around for a replacement, it's a very slow leak and I always keep a 5-gallon Jerry can at least half full of water in the back so it's not an emergency, but I'm curious to see if anyone can verify that the rad from or made for a '92-96 will fit an '87-91 without any issues. I currently have the stock plastic fan shroud and fan, recently replaced the fan clutch and thermostat, plan to replace the main rad hoses when I drop it. Also, as far as aftermarket rads go, what's the best bang-for-buck oem replacement that will bolt right up and work with my stock EFI 5.0? Or full aluminum rad for that matter? I don't need to make my engine run cooler, and don't want to make it take longer to warm up(I live in the mountains, it already takes awhile on cold mornings), I'm just wanting to fix this issue and hopefully get something more durable in there. Thanks!

Check out Mishimoto. They make radiators for just about anything. Pretty decently priced too.

87-91 and 92-96 will swap, and make sure if you buy a stock replacement, get one with the thicker core. Some stores list a thinner core for a 5.0 and thicker for 5.8

If you're happy with your rad, why not take it to Performance Radiator and have them rod it out, reseal it. Might cost $60-75 and be like a new radiator.
