Timing & Spout questions

Post by hobbyturnedobsession »

I need to time my bronco. The under the hood sticker calls for the timing to be 10 degrees btdc, but it tells me to pull the spout plug, and even though I pulled the motor, I don't have a clue where it is. Can someone explain the timing procedure and where I need to look for the spout connector.

what year is your bronco? the spout is near the distributor up through '91 and by the cruise control after that. the connector is just a jumper for two wires that you unplug and that stops the computer from changing the timing. unplug it and set the timing to 10 degrees.

It is within a few inches of the fender well mounted TFI module. Please ignore my zip tie skills. My finger is on it in the picture.

UPDATE Just wanted to thank you guys for the info. Timing it was a breeze even with the stalling issues I'm messing with. Only took me 5 min to time.

what distributor timing r u running?

Post by kahuna bill »

did a search on GFB and didn't find a whole lot on what people are running as far as timing for thier 351w efi broncos. also went searching through the factory truck shop manual and it told me to go look in the engine/emissions manual, which i don't have.
anyways, i marked my rotor and distributor housing before i removed the distributor (removing intake manifolds for deep clean) so i'm not up a creek without a paddle if i don't know what others are running when i re-install the distributor... i'm more curious than anything.
So, what are y'all running for timing on ur 5.8l efi broncos?

10 DEGREES BTDC Thats stock I believe. Just make sure your rotor is turned toward the #1 cylinder.

where do you set your timing

Post by greaslife »

The book calls for 10 degrees before to TDC . What's yours set at ? Should I advance it a bit or leave it. I have been told 5 or 6 T D C is ideal.
I have been me for 32 years and know i cant spell for Sh!$ so get over it . Thanks Josh
