Anyone running gt40p heads?

Post by Late Model Man »

Anybody out there running these crazy things? I have a set thats going on my project 5.8 and am wondering if anybody had header input that hasn't been discussed already. I've read every p-header thread known to man and it seems like everybody is stuck on the ford racing headers...too bad they're discontinued. I might just buy a set of JBAs and see how much fab they need.

I'm ok with building my own but then there's the carb legal issue.

thoughts?

I have GT40P heads on the 302 in my early bronco. I am running a JBA header from a the non GT40P motors. I had to heat and massage one spot on the header to clear a sparkplug, and I run a 1/2" thick header spacer on the drivers side. I have a season of wheeling now with no issues.

Actually my O2s are in my ypipe, I need that funky egr connercor on the pass side. To pass visual I need an EO number or to get it inspected by the BAR. I hate this state!

Nope. Headers have to be clearly labeled with the part # & you need documentation showing that the part is C.A.R.B. certified.

Ahhh. Well, finding someone that will do a crooked smog and having a smog legal aftermarket part are two completely different things. Personally, I wouldn't gamble on the hopes of finding someone that won't fail you for non-compliant parts. If you guys want to, that's fine but we don't need to promote illegal activity on GFB.

I may not have ANY desert in my neck of the woods, but I also don't have smog....that sounds horrible.

Smog's a joke. I think it's a good idea in theory but California has turned it into another money-making scam.

Thats wierd. I've taken my bronco to three different smog shops and not one of them said a word. My headers nor my intake have a serial number but I did drill a hole in the #1 exhaust tube and welded up the bung. It's legit just no carb number.
I'm just here for the views. It helps me feel wanted.

Well I'm sure all the shiny new parts and the candy paint will raise a few questions with this motor when it's done. All the smog techs in my area seem to know the rules pretty well.
