91 Bronco cranks wont start

Post by westco »

1991 bronco 5.8 L automatic transmission took it for a drive today battery light came on, dash charge gauge pegged, brought it back home turned it off a few minutes later turned it back on was running rough then just shut off.
I could smell burnt electrical wiring inside but I do not see any thing burned under the dash and will no longer runs although it does crank, I do not hear the fuel pump whine, I did run the diagnostic check on the fuel pump relay and EEC relays they all seem to be fine if I jump the fuel pump relay I then could hear the fuel pump prime is there a fusible link that I could have blown under the dash

I may be wrong here on a 91 but, I’m pretty sure the links are by the starter solenoid. I don’t know of any under the dash. I would start at the alternator plug and check to the solenoid for burnt wires and melted connectors. If your still running a 2g alternator on the truck I see a 3g swap in your future.
