Can I remove this?
OK...'96 OBDII...I want to remove the ssensor/valve that circulates the gas fumes back through the engine and just keep the charcoal can hooked up. Will there be any adverse effects by doing this?

If you unplug it the computer will sense an open circuit and throw a code. It shouldn't affect drive-ability though.

Nothing will if it has a code even if unrelated right? I thought a CEL was an automatic fail?SteveG wrote:It won't pass smog without it.

Yup. CEL=immediate fail. The good news (ha!) is that the CA B.A.R. now allows smog shops to tell you that before failing it.philofab wrote:Nothing will if it has a code even if unrelated right? I thought a CEL was an automatic fail?SteveG wrote:It won't pass smog without it.

OBD2 you are screwed. There is an easy way around this on OBD1. There is a reason I have decided not to own any more OBD2 vehicles after the Taco Runner is sold.

What are you going to gain from removing it? There's nothing wrong with OBDII as long as it's maintained and modified correctly.

Just eliminating all unnecessary items from under the hood. Was going to relocate it, but I've been scrambling for time. So far I haven't noticed any ill effects other than the check engine light in my face.SteveG wrote:What are you going to gain from removing it? CHeckout Fuel injection.com website they make resistor paks that eliminate the check engine light when you remove the smog crap. I have been running without any smog gear for year and it passes every year. Need to have a cat though.
