Malware?

Post by Phoenix0783 »

I just got redirected to a site that wanted me to download "SoftwareUpdater.exe". Anyone else have this happen?

I had that happen a few times while back. I just logged off and logged back in, it's rare to see but I've also seen it. I wouldn't download any exe file unless you know what it is. I assumed it was malware tied to an image file hosted by this sites server or something, who knows....
When it happened to me I recall it being "file gator" or some crap like that on the redirect.

Maybe you accidentally clicked the banner ad at the bottom of the page?

It's happening to me again. It redirects when the page is finished loading sometimes.

It's going to softwareupdaterlp.com

When's the last time phpBB was updated?

I had it happen today when I typed gofastbronco.com, I deleted it right away.

Honestly, this is bad. It is a very common piece of software so there's always nefarious types poking holes in it. It needs to be kept updated.

I had the same issue a couple days ago. Happened several times and I'm sure I didn't click on the banner. I was clicking on the next page link in a thread.
