Re: OG 94 Explorer Build
Have you checked clearance with the tires on? I was BARELY able to fit smooth bodies outside the frame with my Bronco 8.8 and even smaller tires.

Re: 2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build
Started on rock sliders yesterday. I'm using the frame plate kit from Chassis Unlimited that will have 4 frame attachments. I will be plating in the top with a dimple died sheet, and the ends still need to be trimmed down and capped too. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u122/mounty71/5173B49C-93BC...

Re: 2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build
Got some work done on the beams this weekend. Used my friend's mill to drill out the stock bushing pivots and tacked in the uniball cups. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u122/mounty71/6612A1F0-9AF7-4039-A275-C91C9C0556DF_zps4ca5wuyy.jpg The beams had been repaired a couple of times by the previou...

Re: 2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build
Went on one last trip this past weekend with my current front end. From the city of San Francisco to snow in Tahoe to the desert in Reno, we covered a lot of terrain. Unfortunately a vacuum leak resulted in no heater when we needed it the most, being stopped at a chain check through Donner Pass for ...

Upcoming Bronco apparently will be built on a Wrangler platform? IMO it could be a lot worse than that!

Re: 2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build
I should have said ride height, not ground clearance. Although I think beams will give me a little more ground clearance, I'd like a taller ride height than A-arms can give me. The BTF kit would take care of all of that custom stuff you mention, and most likely at a much lower price. Here's a thread...

2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build
You got that gold explorer from the guy in Arizona right? I love that thing and have referenced it many times. My shock hoops actually came from that guys totaled Ranger. The other option I considered was BTFs fully fabbed A-arm kit but I just wish you could achieve more ground clearance with 4wd A-...

2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build
Bump, anyone care to offer some insight on what I have and what I should get? I'm hoping to hit the junkyard this coming weekend. The Warn Premiums seem to be the hub of choice here?

Re: 2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build
Accumulating parts is the best! http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u122/mounty71/unnamed_zpsoz0opli4.jpg Anyway, I need to figure out hubs at this point, but first I need to settle on knuckles and snouts. Here are a couple shots of the snouts I have, 5-bolt from I believe 91-94, but it looks like 94...

Re: 2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build
Hey Pat, hope you and the family are doing well! The tire swinger is definitely heavy, especially with a full gas can, but so far it's been okay. Kind of a hassle getting into the back now but wouldn't be so bad if my truck had the roll-down window that Broncos do. Sometimes I wish I didn't have it,...

2000 Mercury Mountaineer Build
I have these grand (dumb) plans of converting my 2WD A-arm Mountaineer to a 4WD TTB dual-purpose truck. I've been lurking around for a while but recently made an intro thread in hopes of gaining some knowledge and hopefully finding some parts, but got a lot of interest in my truck in its current (pe...

Re: Steering Systems - Stock, Superunner & Equal Len. Crossover
Not sure how to edit my post but I want to add this picture from Solo's site, and they've welded something to the knuckle but make no mention of any modification to the knuckle or any special tapered hardware.

Re: Steering Systems - Stock, Superunner & Equal Len. Crossover
I'm gathering parts for swing steering and I just went through this thread without really seeing mention of it, but what are you guys doing for bolting the outer heims to the knuckles? Someone mentioned Fodrill pins once that I saw but their website isn't working. I know a lot of you double sheer th...

Mounty71's Introduction
I've been lurking here for quite a while now and I frequent some other similar forums so some of you may be familiar with my truck. My name's Matt and I have a '00 Mercury Mountaineer V8 I've slowly been building and enjoying for the last 13 years. I've always had a thing for old Fords and one day I...
