Re: Front Axle Shaft I.D Please...
IIRC the U-joints are the weak link folowed by the outer shafts so it shouldn't matter.

Re: air filters and air filter housings
Look into 97+ F150/Expedition filter housings. It's a big can with hose clamp attachment on each end so it's easy to use in a custom application

Go on FSB and search around for info on the appropriate belt. There's a shorter belt you can run if you don't have the smog pump.

Re: shock locks?
Left threaded bolts do a pretty damn good job keeping people who don't know about them from removing them. Fine thread bolt, cupped washer (McMaster-Carr, or some other supplier) and a locking lug nut would probably do the trick too, especially since it's too space constrained to hammer a 12pt socke...

Re: Jack and jack skid question
There's some older NIssan SUVs or pickups (I just found the jack laying around the JY so all I know is it came out of a Nissan) that's like the stock Ford screw jack but it's made out of cast steel and has a much heftier base plate, there is a bearing in the bottom that might need to be replaced (I ...

Re: Steering box brace?
correction: Besides the typical whining about rod nuts being made from steel of dubious quality, a lack of second threaded adjuster for the heim (making it possible for the heim joint to be in a position where it can't line up easily) and the second half of the video being mostly irrelevant, all of ...

Steering box brace?
Found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxU2GdWzqjo Summary (in case the video gets taken down for some reason and someone years from now finds the thread) he extends the sector shaft with a rod nut, and bolts a heim to that. The heim threads into a tube that's welded to the engine crossmember Be...

Re: Econo Spring Under??
Look into the main leaf from an 2011+ Superduty. It's 3" wide, a little over 66" long and the pin is in the center. You can probably find a set from someone who lifted their truck. The downside is that it's a really thick leaf so you don't have much room to play with different leaf arrangements unde...

Re: rear caliper options, need specific info
Once my NVG271 is no longer buried under other projects I'm going to look into welding a flange onto the tail-housing. The cable operated drum from pretty much anything should work well since it's got the axle ratio helping it out. For those with a 9" and low gears even a golf cart drum on the pinio...

Re: Rubber freeze plugs for diff and spindles
I'm going to pick up four of these tonight.

Maybe I'll test them when I replace rotors this weekend.

Rubber freeze plugs for diff and spindles
Anyone have any idea what size rubber "spin the bolt to tighten style" freeze plugs would be good for keeping the oil/grease in and unwanted stuff out of the diff and spindles? 1.3"? I figure someone here may have done this before and know the answer. Otherwise I'll go to AZ, get a spindle bearing, ...

Re: Beadlock Talk
Not sure if you two have seen these up for sale on Race Dezert Those are a great deal but they're more rim than I need. I'd buy them but they're on the other side of the country, have a rock ring I don't want and don't have the inserts I do want. My F350 weights 7100lbs, which is almost half of the...

Re:
Be interesting to see tread life and how the tires will perform on the freeway...if you replace tires and wear parts twice as much due to added weight etc...then I don't see the benefit. Also if you do destroy a tire away from home how many tire shops still stock 16.5" tires?? Seriously, go check o...

Re: Rear shock mounts
Stick a 14" stroke shock under your rig, and see how much Bump travel there is !. About 14 minus the down travel from ride height... give or take a little since it's probably not 1:1 stroke:travel. You could stuff it outboard so it's almost parallel to the ground on full compression and keep full b...

Re:
I don't see any benefits to those tires They're cheap, fit on a cheap beadlocked rim, tough as nails, good for the kind of terrain I see (a little bit of everything all at once, plenty of things that will poke holes in tires) and come in sizes from ~29" to ~34" I often drive in the native environme...

Re: Rear shock mounts
Is it possible to run a 14" stroke shock with that type of rear shock mount from threat, solo, etc. ? If I remember right, my buddy had one pretty much identical and he was able to stuff his 14" bilstein 7100's and 5100's under there There's nothing stopping you from going lower on the lower mount....

Re:
I saw those when searching for 16.5 tires. Those is some serious tread on them and they must weight a ton. :-) There's a whole range of tread patterns so they're not all the typical V-tread tractor tires I think you're thinking of. The are really heavy and that's before I put the rubber insert in t...

Re: Bronco Brake upgrade options
I tried a e series disk that slides on from the front very nicely. But it causes two issues, 1 the disk width is small so the piston sticks out a bit. This worries me when the pads wear that it will pop out and i will loose brakes. Two with the e disk it moves my caliper mount to close to the origi...
