Re: Front Brakes 4x4

In Commeifornia you can probably fart on it and the rotor will fall off the hub. In Maine or Michigan you're gonna have to work a little harder. A rotor that's been pinned to the back of the hub for 5+yr is unlikely to "slip" off in any part of the country that uses road salt. Depending on where you...

Re: Wide rearend on a budget

Rear ends between F series and broncos are a bolt in swap. Many people have swapped in 10.25s. Rear ends are not a bolt in swap between F series and E series because the perch width on the E series is wider. All three use the same with leaf spring hangers and all three use 3" springs (let's ignore 2...

Re: Wide rearend on a budget

Rear end from a Dodge. Spring perch width is the same on a 2nd Gen dodge (and probably 3rd gen, a quick google search for whether or not a 3rd gen axle swaps into a 2nd gen would answer that) and WMS is 71-72. VSS is availible in at least some 2nd/3rd gen rams because I know I've seen a tone ring li...

Re: ECT sampling spot?

It’ll be better directly in the manifold. The question is, did Ford calibrate the ECM Knowing the ECT sensor would not be in the intake? Regardless, I doubt it’ll make a difference. Run it and don’t sweat it. The calibration was almost certainly fine tuned using dyno tests so it would inherently ac...

Re: Engine cross member rivets

I've never seen a hollow rivet on a truck. IIRC the TSB basically said to put a bead of weld in a couple particular spots and to only replace rivets if they were obviously worn or had egged out the holes. You probably could design some set of gussets and braces to do the same job but you'd need to o...

Re: Longer shackles and lower hanger question

Longer shackles will certainly help even if only slightly because you'll get better shackle angle throughout your range of travel. Obviously a shackle length and mounting location that is specifically chosen to work with your spring pack to get whatever particular spring rate is "perfect" for your a...

Re: Relocating your Battery ideas??

any thoughts? Yeah, don't do it. Deleting the cruise control doesn't exactly buy much space because the wiring harness and master cylinder are still in the same vicinity. Your new battery is also going to be in the way when you decide you want room to stuff a taller shock at full compression. There...

Re: 8.8 TTB

The length of the beam would be the absolute minimum I'd go with. Longer doesn't hurt unless you go insane. I would try to make it pivot very close to the transfer case output to minimize plunge. For mine I welded a 24" extension to stock arms and then plated the living shit out of them. They've wor...

Re: 8.8 TTB

I started but didn't finish (yet) a similar project. I was going to retain the D44 and it was going to to in a Ranger. I was gonna use U joints on the long side (where the phase would cancel out most vibrations) and a CV on the short side. If I was gonna modify the beam to fit a different 3rd I woul...

Re: Who runs what tires and why?

I blew up one of my skid steer tires. I got within 5mi of my destination before the tread came off so it wasn't a big deal. The rest of the tire still held air. Wasn't nearly as bad as a blowout (and anyone who's had one in real life knows they're only 1/10th as bad as the Internet would make you th...

Re: Who runs what tires and why?

So, I've been running the R4s for a few months now. Here's what I've learned. Yup, bias ply tires get flat spots just as bad as I remembered. Install new O rings on the H1s right at the start. It's not worth fighting leaks. You've gotta be anal about checking tire pressure. At 0psi they look like ho...

Not really practical if you plan on driving on the street.
I'm doing it and it's not bad. I don't have RCV shafts either.

Easy, $10 junkyard drive slugs. Then add $1k of CV axle shafts when you get tired of all the extra NVH.

Re: Dana 44- Open, LS - Thoughts on your setup??

A rig that has 4 wheel drive is worthless unless it had some kind of traction device in both the front and rear diffs. Otherwise you will end up with on wheel drive on the axle. You cannot believe how many rigs I have towed because the guy thought he could drive in the sand with his entry level 4x4...

Re: Who runs what tires and why?

I run 12-bolt H1s with skid steer 10-16.5s in an R4 tread pattern and approximately 31" diameter. On pavement they are loud as all hell from 15-45 but from then on they're no louder than any other aggressive tire. R4s work well in mixed trail conditions but the tire compound has little grip on hard ...

Hubs unlocked = 2wd Lol, Doh! Total blonde moment there... Okay, so if the hubs are then locked - but 4 wheel drive is not engaged, are you still using the locker? I guess what I am trying to say is if I have a locker in the front and I want to drive around town with the hubs locked (due to snow or...
