You do not need a license to use a race radio.

Re: school me on two-ways

Ok, Here is basic answer, Radios come in several types and differ on the use for them. First one is Citizen Band aka CB radios. Cheap but work ok car to car off road short distance. Con is that there is a lot of numb sculls out there that will interfere with your communication's. Legal limit on outp...

Re: Ford or Chevy prerunner?

I would ask, what is your budget? If you are starting with a low budget, Bronco is the first answer. If you did not have to worry about smog then do a chevy 383CI with a turbo 400 and a full floater 14 bolt rear end. My thoughts are use the best of both companies and the parts are not high dollar st...

1970's Bronco prices on Craig's list

Now I have seen two Early 1970's Bronco's on Craig's list in the mid $70,000 range. What the heck. One is a 72 and the other is a 77. They are in really nice condition but they are nothing Like the race Bronco Complete Fabrication Glen and Chris are building. That Bronco should be worth double that ...

Re: Built AOD vs. M5R2

You will need a new drive shaft, cross member & linkage. Also a rebuilt transfer case that does not need an adapter may be better. I went the other direction and replaced the AOD with a C6. I am pretty hard on transmissions. The reverse clutch plates burnout and are weak. So don't pull anyone thats ...

Re: Transmission coolers

On my Bronco I want to put two of those with shroud's and puller fans.
If I can afford it I will get a pair of Fluidyne Enduro Trans cooler with shrouds and fans but at $500 each is a bit high.
I may break down and do it anyway.

Re: Transmission coolers

I agree with the statement that the puller fan is better than a pusher. The cooler in that picture did not work that well in the sand dunes at Glamis. I pulled it and put a True Line 45,000 GVW Trans cooler without a fan and it works so much better. The trans does not go above 180° anymore, even on...

Re: Alternator Discussion

You sure it was actually rewound? Seems light A LOT of work when 200 amps can be had out of factory windings. Where did you get your 90 amps at idle figure from? Your statement of producing 90 amps at idle with a "rewound" altenator seems to good to be true. Traditionally rewinds get higher output ...

Re: Alternator Discussion

No. A single V belt will not support more than about 90 amps. Dual is a little better. A six rib serpentine belt is good for about 160-180 amps. .[/quote] I have had a v belt on my Bronco 302 and run a 200 amp alt for 10 years without one issue. It does not slip ever. Even when I run the AC, stereo ...

Re: Race radios

David nice work. Can you give us the details? I put these pit box radios together for guys that do remote pits. A few years back I was doing a pit for JCR Team Honda down past LA Bay for the 1000 and Honda gave us a pit radio that had been screwed to a piece of plywood. After a 50 miles on a ruff d...

Re: Transmission coolers

I use to run one of those B&M coolers but even with the Fan in the Bronco AOD trans it would get too hot in the Dunes at Glamis or the deep silt in baja. I had the same issue in my F350 Superduty until I started running a 45,000GVW plate type cooler. I plan to run dual 45,000GVW coolers with shrouds...

Re: Race radios

Ya, my pit box laptop Has Xp Pro and I can program the old Tk730 and the Tk790. Also XP lets me use old dos programs and new Windows software even for our handhelds. Another thing nice about it is I can edit GPS maps out in the field. I picked up the Military surplus Weather proof Tuff Book for $50....

Re: Race radios

It worked so much better than the Icom. First off the modulation output was much cleaner and louder. Also the bleed over on other frequencieswas much higher on the Icom. Your Icom was not set up right then. I have used many of those with excellent results. Chase truck I would way rather have on of ...

Re: How fast have you gone in 104" wb Bronco?!?

With my old setup, 14" travel non-coilover. 302, AOD trans and 35" tires I have hit 110Mph on the freeway over the pass on the way to Plaster City according to my Lowrance GPS. In the dirt I have had the Bronco up to 95 on the long straight away outside San Felipe. The fastest I have gotten the Bron...

Re: TTB Build thoughts

Was there a TTB using a differential larger then the D50? I only ask because there is a 90's F250 that has something real big in the way of a TTB in it... That is a D50. The D60 only came in a solid axle option. Ramsey and Glen made a lot of progress on the Blazer but still not done. It was suppose...

Re: Race radios

So who's gonna man up and admit to having the Weatherman disapproved, and much hated icom v8000? I had a old Roadmaster for years that a team gave me for helping out at the races. After years I did get an Icom V8000. The radio was better than the roadmaster but was ok for pitting. When I started ch...
