Re: Heim Joint Failure!!! ???

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like this will be an upgrade area. The mounts on the frame and axle have been heavily modified/reinforced. I'm going to run the 3/4" heims for the moment, but the track bar will be upgraded before the next race.

Re: Heim Joint Failure!!! ???

The rig has 33's on it. Our races vary in abuse. This past weekend the course was brutal. It was the roughest course of the series and we ran it last. It was pretty well rutted and rock strewn from the buggies that ran before us.

Re: Heim Joint Failure!!! ???

Thanks for the info guys. Not sure that 1-1/4 heims will work on the track bar, but will do some research. I don't know who could make a track bar up with the bends in it either. The one I have right now could likely be threaded 7/8's. These were the cheap Ruff Stuff heims. Perhaps the nicer ones ar...

Heim Joint Failure!!! ???

Ok, so I've broken more than a handful of 3/4" heims lately. The 'band' around the ball of the joint just gives out, usually 90 degrees from the threaded portion (shank?) of the joint. Do you guys replace them on a regular basis? These joints are in my steering and on the track bar on the 74' EB. Br...

Re: SAS Sway Bar???

Good call on the bump steer. I'm 100% it isn't close, now that you mention it. Not sure how much it varies. I'll have to check it out. Thanks! Are you guys running any kind of sway bar(s) on your racer? Just curious.

Re: SAS Sway Bar???

Thanks for the input. To clarify a little, this is a race only truck. The radius arms have 1.25" heims on them. The track bar has 3/4" heims on it and is tight with the mounting hardware. Steering is TRO and has 3/4 heims on it. Front shocks are now King triple bypass and rears are King smooth body ...

SAS Sway Bar???

Any of you solid front axle types running sway bars? The 74 is getting dialed in. It has come a LONG way. I am noticing roll coming into and out of corners. It is a side to side kind of action that tends to result in the truck trying to fish-tail when coming out of a hard corner on the gas. Not look...

Big 10-4 on that. Gotta tear into them before the next race. We are going to have a whole lot more of this down there!!

Re: Suspension setup questions

Yeah, air bumps would be pretty tough to mount. I'd probably have to mount them in the frame. (a lot of work). Been thinking of the shock valving and firming them up some but don't want to go overboard and overheat them.

A quick pic from our last race:

Re: Robinson Racing- ECORS series rock racer

Shocks have been valved by someone else. I just threw them on... I have some basic working knowledge of shock tech, but hadn't had these apart yet. Any recommendations? A call to King for some insight might be in order. Don't want to do something I shouldn't...

Re: Robinson Racing- ECORS series rock racer

Yep, Nick is one of my sponsors! Great guy that does some really awesome work. I'm running his EB shackles, amongst other things. We are running 33" MT Baja Claws on 15" MRW steel beadlocks. So far the front is doing ok. Did note a loose cap in the one CTM this weekend. The stub shaft was just about...

Re: Suspension setup questions

Finished 2nd at the race this weekend. New setup is awesome! Running 2.5" 3 tube bypasses on the front and 2.5" remote resi shocks on the rear. We have 10" of travel in the front and 12" in the rear now. Probably not the numbers you guys are getting, but it worked well. Bottomed the front a few time...

Re: Suspension setup questions

As an aside, does anyone care to share their spring rates (if known) compared to their corner weights (if known)? just want to be sure i'm in the ball park. Based on the ride, the fronts are close. Don't know about the rears yet- replacing them with new ones now.

Re: Robinson Racing- ECORS series rock racer

Some more pics. Basically, I am adding more up travel, softening springs a touch, and adding some real shocks. All in hopes of the going faster part. Going slow hasn't been much of an issue. Have most of that worked out now with a selectable OX locker in the front, a spool in the rear, C-4 auto, and...

Re: Robinson Racing- ECORS series rock racer

Mostly what we do is a mixture of crawling and wide open running (like the KOH competition out where you guys (or y'all like they say here) live). Right now I am undoing what I already did on the suspension. I've never raced off road vehicles before. Racing and crawling are totally different, come t...

Robinson Racing- ECORS series rock racer

No, it is not a Stroppe, but I couldn't resist the paint scheme. My ride is a mixture of stuff. It is closest to a 77, with the big bearing fishmouth housing, D44 disc axle, and 77 chassis. It was titled as a 74, so I'm going with that. Built it from the frame up. The original frame rails are intact...
