preferred method of shade tree alignment for i beam suspensi
i need to check some specs on mine (namely center the steering wheel and check toe-in and camber). i'm comfortable doing the measuring measuring, but i know for instance if you back up the suspension shifts and your camber and toe change. is it acceptable to put the beams up on jackstands and get th...

exhaust resonators
anybody used one? i like the packaging of my new exhaust, but it drones a bit too much for my taste when i'm on the highway. was thinking something like this on each side of my duals before the muffler: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/JEX-AR3012S-5/ just curious if anyone has experience with them,...

Re: Truss or not to Truss
when last i checked, 8.8 rears use .188" thick tubes. i wouldn't be surprised if the sterling used more than .250"; 14 bolts, D70s, and some D60s mostly use .5" tubes
if you can find someone, I would just Tig weld the tubes to the housing and call it good.

school me on non-cross over steering
so since my last info thread squeezed some good tech out of you guys, lets try this again.... when i crawl under my van and stare at the steering, i see that it is pretty far from ideal. its just stock, and looks strong enough for stock stuff, but i don't like the geometry. the drivers side tie rod ...

That is a large help actually! bam! http://portland.craigslist.org/grg/bik/2289878250.html http://corvallis.craigslist.org/bik/2293611018.html throw a nice new set of tires and a new fork on either of those and you got yourself a killer bike. another thing to plan on which makes a huge difference i...

Re: The Bike Thread
What should I look for? What should I expect to drop (remember this comes out of the Bronco Budget)? personally, i would look used on craigslist. a guy your size is probably going to want at least an L to XL frame. there is no real sizing standard (you could go off of seat tube height or top tube l...

np203s are ungodly heavy, very large and suck a lot of power too.

Re: bigger. and slower.
finally had a sunny day off so i got around to putting together my wifes x-mas present to me. probably the simplest "true dual" exhaust you can put together. noticeably more get up and go, and now it sounds like the big block it is. it sure was nice of ford to put a 4 bolt flange where the cat attac...

Re: Front Locker/ limited slip options
i have to say, front lockers are not the best for going fast in my experience. you will notice some interesting handling characteristics when going on/off the gas while turning. in 4wd you will probably notice a lot of "snowplowing" or "understeer" for you top gear types. if you use your 4wd in the ...

Re: the E4OD information thread
Yup - perfect. Except I don't subscribe to the need for an external filter. The tranny has an internal one. And if the tranny disendegrates I will just buy new coolers. Racers spend so much for tranny coolers they send them out for ultrasonic cleaning when they change out the tranny. No filters fro...

Re: the E4OD information thread
Blower is set to suck thru the cooler. No issues for engine heating. been trying to wrap my head around your verbage...so the fan is sandwiched between the tranny cooler and the radiator? that seems like it would be pretty effective, also doubles as a cooling fan for the radiator then right? how do...

Re: the E4OD information thread
excellent info so far, thanks guys. mine hasn't seen more than 180* yet with me driving, guess i don't have as much to worry about as i thought. i use the OD lockout quite often and don't actually shift into OD until on the freeway and everything starts to warm up. its got a decent sized cooler, but...

the E4OD information thread
after seeing yikes' tranny fail at pismo, i have realized how little i actually know about this piece of equipment. being that i have one in my 4 ton DD van with nigh on a quarter of a million miles, i think i should gather as much knowledge as i can. philo mentioned something to me about changing t...

Re: Detroit Lockers
breaking a shaft can wipeout the whole detroit. usually happens when they are bound up in the rocks and one side is suddenly shock loaded with 100% torque instead of the 50-50 split. my buddy grenaded a detroit with only breaking a hub in the rocks. its sporadic how it occurs, but it can happen. sti...

Re: bigger. and slower.
had to track down a leak which meant taking all the interior trim off. i swear ford engineered this thing around the No. 2 philips screwdriver. seemed like as good of a time as any to dynamat the whole thing (minus the roof and floor). i did both sides of the front doors tho, made a huge difference,...
