Now that I have transitioned to late model (18 and 21) all my relays have the diode. I usually use an external one because I have an inventory of relays without the diode.
Regarding circuit breakers . Buy form a known brand rather than Amazon and get better quality.

Mounts:
My 72 had a CB mounted to the roof
My 96 had a dual band under the passenger seat and its screen on the dash.
My 21Jeep has a CB and a VHF mounted on a rack next to the roof.

Re: All Band 100w Radio experience.
So no days GMRS is what most folks are migrating to.
Now I have a mobile CB, Mobile VHF and two Boefeng handhelds that deal with all the bands.
The handhelds are great for spotter duties on just monitoring the race when walking around.
Also there is a big crowd using mobile GMRS.

Re: Antenna Delete Ideas
I would love to get a all band all mode radio that would be in the 100-200 watt range, but most antennas that will cover 25mhz to 500mhz don't look to durable for off road. That's the problem with multi-band antennas. We designed a great dual band (VHF / UHF) antenna years ago but have been hesitan...

Always looking for education on antennas. To many of them out there to digest all the hype.
Steve,
Does Rugged have VHF/UHF gain comparisons for antennas and their location.

Re: PCI Thank you for the Lowrance GPS Cheat Sheet
in the old days my buddy used a Toughbook and it worked fine with the built in GPS wan antenna. Now days both the offerings from Lowrance and Garmin all have internal antennas and they work great inside a metal truck. Lowrance is not a good product due to lack of map support. However Lowrance is gre...

Re: Rugged Radios Stretched Bronco - Factory Race Support, Tacos, and Coffee!
Wilson Truck Comments - The ABS kit was not one of my great ideas. They worked ok after a bunch of tweaking. Looks like Steve is making it more conventional. My decision for ABS was the significant increase in line pressure versus stock. Oh well. Yes it is a 7000 # rig and needs really good brakes. ...

Reflection on my EB build
It is gone and after selling I thought how could I make the build easier. Most troublesome and difficult was AC and motor cooling. * I wish I would have started with a Explorer motor setup and a fiberglass hood that was plenty High in front over the PS reservoir. (Choice was a Mustang motor) * The c...

Re: ARB AIR LOCKER
Times are changing pretty quickly. Many new compressors out there and it seems they are nearly equal to the high price traditional ones with the same reliability with better performance. Now days a low flow locker compressor with 100psi output go for 50 to 100 dollars. About a quarter of the price o...

Re: ARB AIR LOCKER
You are correct with two compressors and get double the CFM and half the time to fill the tank. Way overkill with two compressors. My old 440P compressor doing one at a time was slower than my partner doing 4 at a time with a twin ARB. Not a significant difference and he only waited a short time for...

Re: ARB AIR LOCKER
Imbest comments So my next question is, if you add two compressors, does it double the CFM output. Example, 7cfm at 30psi, withe two compressors would be 14cfm. Just wondering. If running a tank, I would think it would fill the air tank faster. yes 2 would be twice as fast as 1 for tire inflation Ta...

Re: ARB AIR LOCKER
Years ago, I worked at ARB in Melbourne, making bullbars and tyre carriers for various vehicle types. On my breaks, I used to go watch the CNC's machining the pieces for the lockers. ALL the castings are from China. Almost all the other gear from ARB is sourced from China or Thailand. It is importa...

Re: ARB AIR LOCKER
Vehicle mounting is a major obstacle. Very unique for each rig. My VIAIR was mounted on the C cage at an angle on the new Jeep. Terrible install. The heavy object must be horizontal. Any side load on the bolt mounts will fail. I will try for mounting on the rear inside fender. since it will be seein...

Re: ARB AIR LOCKER
David ARBs are durable for every thing I have read, but I will say that about many others. THE main issue for compressors is heat and when you overheat them they loose lots of performance. There have been major improvements in compressors these days. 100% of them are from China and seem to have exce...

Re: RELAYS, Solid state vs mechanical
Do you know if these ss relays have the flyback diode. I either buy mechanical relays with the diode or add them at install. Yes all my rigs have a bunch of good old mechanical relays. On all my old school rigs they had smart gauges that operated the relays for the fans. Now days I have 21 Jeep and ...

Re: Rugged Radios Stretched Bronco - Factory Race Support, Tacos, and Coffee!
Of course the build desire was to make it look OEM as possible. Front fenders are glass by Autofab with the least amount of width. Rear fenders are just pushed out as far as possible without creating any wrinkles. Fitment and rear fenders were done by Glen Strightiff. The rear axle housing is the sa...

Re: ARB AIR LOCKER
On my 72 build I use two air pumps. The ARBs I bought came with the bonus small ARB compressor which is inadequate for tire airing, so I installed a Viair with tank beside the little compressor.
Just one way to do it.

Re: ARB AIR LOCKER
To worry abut air leaks seems to be pretty unlikely. On a previous rig I drove it 20 years and never had an air leak. I did have a pressure switch failure, but the local parts store in Moab had a replacement. That Jeep is still being driven several years after I sold it to my buddy here in Baja and ...
