Re: Does anyone do Geocaching?
I think it would be fun. GPS- Stick with Lowrance. After the steep learning curve its very easy. I have a cheat sheet to shorten the learning curve. Just ask I have a Garmin (hand held + truck mounted combo and 3 different Lowrance units. Forget about Garmin. Lowrance still sells the IFinder hand he...

Bad noises from the transfer. Glen rebuilt with bearing/seal kit & chain. Failure caused by a loose front output bearing which caused the rubber seal to go away and its particales plugged the oil filter which caused needle bearing and Idle bushing to fail. Idle bushing was welded to the case and bro...

U-joing clocked correctly? Common issue for the TTB. Not so common on the rear shaft.

Re: 5.0 ho needs some low end power
Paul, That is why I was talking about the non lock up torque converter. The AOD does not have the same converter lock up as most auto transmissions. By going to a one piece in put shaft you increase the strength of the transmission and eliminate the "lock up" (revenous vs simpson gear set design) o...

Re: Bronco Transmission/Transfer Case Cross Member
With the kind of hits I am getting I am glad it is still in place. Also it gives a place to mount the engine/tranny skid which does not take big hits but sure has some small ones. If you have a bent one I would recommend gettring a used and not bent replacement. Better to have the member take a hit ...

Re: 5.0 ho needs some low end power
His issue is about highway cruise. Sure the lower gears are great for getting started, but do nothing for highway cruise. The AOD came out when economy was important, Thus it has long OD ratio and the thing shifts constantly. The fix is lower gears or a stroker or pressureized engine. The electric t...

Re: EGR Eliminator kit and smog pump eliminator
my truck seemed to run so much smoother once i took off the cat and thermactor system and i'm liking all the extra room on the passenger side. you can simply remove the smog pump and get a shorter belt. you need to be careful tho because too short of a belt will put a lot of side loading on the alt...

How long have the automakers been galvanizing the frames and such? I crawled under my Bronc the other day and took a good look at the frame, its been in the mid-west its whole life (22 years) and the absolute worst I could find was surface rust. Its a shame Ford didn't galvanize the tailgate.... ==...

Re: Ice chest / Cooler tech
I used to put my 5 day cooler on the rear floor but it get so hot the ice goes way to fast. I put 2" of styrafoam under the removable carpet and that helped. Now I just strap the thing on the stock bench seat for longer trips. More than doubled the ice life. For one day trips I use the floor and a s...

My professor explained any kind of thick coating on the undercarrage will get chipped. The result is what he called a guppy ponds. Meaning the water or whatever isused on the roads in bad weather will sit there and eat thru the metal. He liked the soft kind of undercoating my not the stuff being sol...

Re: Shift Kits E4OD ????
What are everyones thoughts on E4OD shift kits? Specifically something like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRG-E4OD-HD2/ I am under the impression that the firmer the shift the less the TC slips and the less heat will be created. I also, don't know everything and am often wrong. Hence the q...

I have an ICOM F121 and a Kenwood GM707 multi band in my Bronco. Two totally dissimilar gadgets. The ICOM is a klutz to program and very unfriendly to use. Won't show the freqs just the name. No squelch, etc. On the other hand the Kenwood is sweet, easy to program and enough controls to allow all th...
