Re: Drill Bits

I have the HF cobalt set for general use. I sharpen them as needed and take care not to burn them up. I buy cheapo double ended HSS in 1/4, 3/16 and 1/8 for pilot drilling things. The shitty part about drilling is the center where you have zero sfm so drilling pilot holes really helps. If you're the...

Re: Ford 9" Disc Brake Options - Advice?

These are 5000lb-7000lb vehicles depending on how kitted out you are with extra steel throughout the vehicle. Even with 35-37" tires the rear braking needs aren't that exceptional. Slap some '99+ E-250/350 drum in hat calipers on it with a rotor that matches your bolt pattern and be done with it. No...

The click should definitely be audible but it should be a click and not a bang.

Re: The dreaded E4OD

It's a C6 with some electronics and overdrive. None of that is complicated. It's not 1990 anymore. If you get a shit rebuild it's because the rebuilder knowingly half-assed things.

Re: Welder- What to buy

Either go with dedicated machines or get a big (like 500A) used stick welder that can do constant current (most of the big ones can) and buy accessories (like a tig setup) as needed.

Re: 8.8 wall thickness @ taper?

Based on repeated eyecrometer measurements of the 8.8 tube end (out of a 10th gen F150) that was kicking around my desk for the better part of a year a couple years ago I'm gonna say no or if the thickness does change it doesn't change much. If you're gonna do a truss I'd go from brake flange to bra...

past life i was all about the hackfab, plenty of welds cooling on the way to the dezert. now i spend money and put things in place to force myself to do things better, which have resulted in a better quality on my work. the fixturing for my extension and C&T is over kill, but it forces me to keep t...

It's a block with a hole in it. I think that anyone cutting and turning beams should be able to make it themselves. The reamer is under $100.

Re: D50/D44 Go Fast TTB – Gathering Ideas

Passenger beam will be a pain in the ass though because you can't just use the 3rd as a reference point like you can on the driver's beam. The passenger beams are nearly the exact same length. I was planning on opening the axle window and reinforcing it enough to cycle properly. The center u joint ...

Re: D50/D44 Go Fast TTB – Gathering Ideas

For mine I will probably go maybe 1.5” wider but I will make my own radius arms that mount to the back of the beam. That way I won’t have to worry about the radius arm bolt holes on the beams. Thinking about it, it might just be easier for me to extend the driverside beam inward from the diff to ma...

Re: 1350 Slip yoke

If you are dead set on 1350 go on the Spicer website and play with the drive shaft parts crossover tools until you find something.

Operating angles are better on 1410 but if you already have a bunch of 1350 parts I can understand wanting to make it work.

Re: 1350 Slip yoke

Pretty much every E350 with the 4R100 and 98 and down F350 is using a 1350 slip yoke . I know the wheelbase is different but if you're looking for an application then there it is.

I'm not sure why you want a slip yoke. You can buy CV flange yokes all the way up to 1410 if not 1480.

Re: Bronco Speed Class???

If you want to keep the costs to something a garage building could run once or twice in a year then I think you should disallow coil-overs completely, drop the shock size to 2.5 and allow rear leaf spring hangers in non-stock location so people can run longer leaf springs and allow unlimited shock l...

If I do this I'm going to wrap it in the serp, but I understand why a separate belt for the second alt could be a good thing. Maybe a bit of a ducted shield to deal with the environment down there. Since we're on the subject, has anyone ever seen or heard of an alternator with a clutch on it like a...

Re: Tools for pulling axles and general TTB/bronco work

I'm sure some snob will tell you anything less than snap-on tools is a waste of your time but personally I've never had problems using cheap Harbor Freight stuff for everything. I think the only "special" tools that apply to the TTB are hub sockets, a ball joint press and a bearing splitter if you a...
