Course is a mess with all the rain and they shut down upper portion over the summit. Bikes are on hold in Borrego until they remark a new course. Cars will not start till after noon.

Yeah cheap shot I know. You are just one of the few that can bolt the same collection of parts together and have it work right when others rattle apart. It's a hard trait to teach

Re: Motor mounts

Autofab mounts are good and the powder coat looks nice but you should scrape off that powder where the mount meets the block and under the bolt heads. Powder coat is plastic and flows under heat and pressure and it will loosen up especially with short ,little stretch bolts that hold it to the block....

I think it is just to keep your belt loops, gun holster, or whatever from catching on it when you slide past.

Re: My 95

We use some spray on Cosmoline type product from Mcmaster that works pretty well for shipping bare metal overseas. Unfortunately it is not completely clear and I wouldn't want it on my truck that Im leaning against all the time.

I second that California rust is nothing to worry about. I am more interested in why the locknuts on the bypass adjusters are backed off about ten turns.

Was he able to do all the tuning on the stock 96 computer or does it have any add on boxes?

Re: Shock Valving

Heavier rebound in the rear. I would not change the compression without more information on bigger bumps. Don't forget the front effects the rear too. The front looks like it could use lighter rebound it was pulling the wheels off the ground on those small rollers.

Re: Farewell Dusty Times

I cant help but think of all the people who have tried to bring race coverage into the internet and modern era and haven't come close to the info a little newspaper put out. Thinking of Off Road . com RDC and others that buy super expensive satellite feed trucks and cameras etc. Their coverage lasts...

Re: Farewell Dusty Times

John Calvin and Jean Calvin where the heart of Dusty Times. This is sad news indeed. I hate to see it come to an end. While it was never a glitzy glamorous magazine it was by far the most informative desert racing news letter out there. Their long time writer Judy Smith must be heart broken. I hope...

Re: 400 ford

Dont waste your time with iron heads, the factory 400 heads are sjit, they crack easily and arent good for performance of any kind. This comment is true for the actual 351M-400 heads however the 351-Cleveland heads do not have the cracking problem and other then weighing more are otherwise identica...

Re: 400 ford

I gonna weigh into the 400 Clevo debate. (Yes I call it a Clevland, because thats what it is, a 351C block stretched 1.1") There are many stories about the oiling problems the 335 engine family has, and having raced them for many years I am stuffed if I have EVER had an oiling problem. I have drag ...

The 96 has a goofy ratcheting one piece spindle nut setup. Mine came out in pieces and I swapped to the older nut-washer-locknut setup.

Actually that seems to be exactly how they act. It will run fine until you lean on the fender or whatever then nothing and magically work later.

Don't to forget the old no ground wire Ford problem. Seems to come up a lot on trucks that people modify or are in salty environments. Make sure good ground from chassis to body to engine to batt. etc...
